January 14, 2007 - Happy New Year! Here’s a collective raised glass/bottle/box/can in blessings and health for the coming months. We rang it in well, couple of great shows, fun gatherings, the occasional sweet kiss…
So what’s been the Gypsy Eyes goings on, you query? Well… Shortstack’s record has been welcomed with open arms around our fine nation, loved by many throughout the land. It was also voted into the Presidency in Belarus, and our offices are in a tizzy working out the cabinet, stances on EU membership, and trying to get the record to speak for itself… The band will be on tour about the middle of March with DC’s (really?) own These United States (do we need to mention their name here?) through the Southwest up to Chicago… if they miss your town, please mail in your insults and irritations to Natalia (info AT gypsyeysrecords DOT com). Natalia is our hard working, soft spoken, often drunk public relations dept. She’ll be happy to pass on your heartbreak to Shortstack personally… Welcome Natalia!
Let’s see what’s next… Ah. Revival’s sitting around twidling their thumbs, getting fat, waiting on the release of Horses of War, their debut record. You never know how much waiting there is to do until you either A) put out a record, or B) fly internationally out of the U.S…. And funnily enough, A is to B as “putting a record out” is to “what’s next”; Revival will be jetting off for a month of the Olde European Budget Tour Experience in May (OEBTEM…)
That’s after, of course, February, March, and April, during which they’ll be doing their best to go broke driving around the wonderful and stunning United States. We’ll post tour dates on this site… go see ‘em if you can. They’re lonely and loving people…
Speaking of lonely, my mind wanders over to Vandaveer… so lonely. Grace and Speed arrives in March… somehow it’s already getting great reviews. Hmmm. Genius. I saw him play in Baltimore the other evening. Pretty sure Tom Petty was there (I was drunk though.) (Well, a little. ) Tom and Mark were huddled in the corner for half an hour at least… don’t know what they came up with, but it’s sure to be good. Anyways, Vandaveer’s promising tours too… guessing he’ll be on the road soon, actually. But that’s just a guess. For the uninitiated, a quick sidebar. (counsel… this way!)
Booking tours, although we make it seem magically easy, is a bitch. By that I mean a Frothing, Rabidly Protective, Hugely Toothed, Muscle and Bone Monster of a Wolf with Pups. So please be easy with our beloved artists… They’ll be out there, hoping to see you and make friends or love, have a drink or a meal, and sing you to sleep. Again please send wishlists and concerns to Natalia. She loves you.
Brandon Butler loves you too, by the way. He made a surprise appearance at the Federal Reserve show here the other night… lied a bit, cried a bit. If you haven’t seen the man play, you’ve missed out on one of the great experiences of modern time Rock and Roll. I’m amazed really. Either way, Brandon’s out building houses, painting houses, installing kitchen cabinetry, and so on. He’s planning a house building tour for February… it’s a new spin on things. Credit goes his way. You drive your old tour bus around, and fix shit instead of playing shows. Hell of an idea, really. But then his record comes out in April, so he’s got music-playing tours in the works for then. Basically everyone’s going on tour. That’s what i’m saying. Okay? We’re all gonna be running around in the dark, trying not to run in to each other.
Mikal too, ‘cept she’s in a play here in dc until sometime midwinter. Girl’s got many talents… and everyone wants a bit of her time. Lucky girl. People are starting to talk about her record, but we must beat you into quiet submission on that one for a while. Records are like little new-born babes. They take a while to concieve, then they gotta percolate, then fed a bit of milk, then finally showed off to all your friends, strangers, strangers friends, highway patrolmen (though the subtext there is a bit different) and on. So she’s gunna do her play, play some shows, break some hearts, write some songs, keep on making her record, meanwhile touring with Revival. Did you know she’s in Revival? Yeah. So.
So that’s basically our news. What else… rundown. My sister got married. So did our friend Dave Bryson from Son Volt. Saw the LowLows in London… Fuckin’ awesome band. Revival got a new van, Shortstack sold theirs… Josh shaved his head, Jesse shaved his beard, Kalani ate some fried chicken. Warm winter here in DC… sorry Denver.
Love Those Gypsy Eyes
